Join us next month for this delightful comic satire by Gilbert & Sullivan. A masterful operetta full of wit, comedy and beautiful music as Gilbert pokes fun at the “aesthetics” of the Victorian period, but which today read: “woke”, “hipster” or “TikTok” culture.
Whatever it may be, the joke is that human nature doesn’t really change and we all follow the trends, but none more so than the Twenty Love-sick Maidens all in love with the local poet, Bunthorne, and vying for his hand while rejecting the attentions of their former fiancĂ©’s, the very dashing Dragoon Guards.
Bunthorne is of course only interested in the one person in the village who does not want him at all, which is none other than Patience, happily free from love and all its depressing ministrations. That is, until, her childhood love, Archibald, arrives on the scene as the most perfect poet of them all, to claim Patience’s hand. The uproar is tremendous and you will enjoy every moment of it.
